Ryan Munsell, MD

Hometown: Owosso, MI

College: Oakland University

Medical School: Wayne State University

Hobbies/Interests:  Traveling with my wife and 2 kids, Ice Hockey, Softball, Backpacking, Camping/RV’ing, Fishing, Snowboarding.

Things you like about our program: I love the dynamics between the residents, attendings, and support staff. Everyone works well together and quite seamlessly. It is a wonderful learning environment where you can be yourself and focus on learning, rather than trying not to screw-up. I rotated through all 5 of the major Detroit EM programs while in medical school and St. John had (and still has) by far the happiest and closest-knit residents. The facilities are beautiful and there is plenty to offer in the immediate area or a short drive from the hospital for all of your non clinical endeavors.

Things you like about Detroit: Detroit has so much to offer. From the obvious sports teams, to the riverwalk, Belle Isle, Campus Martius and everything in between, Detroit has something for everyone. Not to mention that a resident salary will go much further here in Detroit than other major cities… and those cities will not even come close to giving you the same clinical experience that you’ll gain here in the D.
