This past week, we attended the annual Detroit Sonocup at the Museum of Contemporary Art located downtown. Our very own Assistant Program Director and Assistant Ultrasound Fellowship Director Dr. Ashley Sullivan created this awesome event that is now in its 5th year.
We were joined by the residents from Sinai Grace, Detroit Receiving and McLaren. Events included several rapid fire question sessions over a broad variety of topics including cardiac ultrasound, obstetrics, and biliary. We’ve very proud to say that St. John took home first place in the rapid fire questions!!
There were also several skills categories that we performed very well in too. As always, these events were extremely creative yet challenging thanks to our awesome ultrasound faculty.
We were also challenged to create our own ultrasound phantom to practice vascular access, and our phantom took second place overall. We made a mold of one of our resident Alex’s arm, and then were able to make our phantom from the mold, complete with “veins” to practice ultrasound skills on.
Mike, Angela, Shawn and Doug competed in the finals for us. Due to our success in the rapid fire questions, we automatically made it into the second round of the tournament. We made it through that round, and then faced Sinai Grace in the finals. There were 4 different skills competitions, and our 4 residents competing did an amazing job. It was very close, and we ended up getting second place.
Shout out to Angela for winning the fishing competition! Overall it was such a fun day, and one of the last events we will all have with our third year residents before they graduate this month. Can’t wait for next year’s Sonocup!
