Ascension St. John Hospital is a 714-bed tertiary care Level 1 Trauma Center, PCI center and Comprehensive Stroke Center located on Detroit’s east side. Because of its location, Ascension St. John Emergency Department (ED) serves patients from the inner city as well as the adjacent suburban areas, providing a diverse Emergency Department experience. The ED is one of the busiest in Michigan. The ED consists of 73 private rooms and an 8 bed Resuscitation Bay. Our post-covid volume is approximately 92,000 patients per year.
The Emergency Department has a separate Pediatric Emergency Department that is staffed by fellowship trained Emergency Pediatric faculty. Roughly 25% of all patient visits are pediatric, providing residents with excellent experience in emergency pediatrics.
