Why SJHEM: In my opinion, there is no better place to learn Emergency Medicine than In Detroit! The procedural autonomy, patient diversity, and sheer volume of SJH EM are just a few reasons I was drawn here.

Medical School: Wayne State University
Hobbies: Lot of things! Recently I’ve enjoyed riding my bike a lot. Have a week long 400 mile trip coming up soon!
Why SJHEM: Favorite thing about our program is the pace and volume of the department. Compared to other ERs I rotated through during medical school, SJH was exceptional in that regard. I saw and did more in a given shift than I had at other programs, and sick patients were clearly abundant. While there was plenty of support available from attendings and faculty, it was apparent that SJH is a busy and exciting place to be! I want to train in an environment that takes me out of my comfort zone clinically, St John met and exceeded my expectations!
Ryan Kenerson, MD
Hometown: Clarkston, MI
Undergrad: Kennesaw State University
Medical School: Michigan State University College of Human Medicine
Hobbies: In my free time, I like to hang with my wife Amanda, daughters Molly and Lucy, and dog Bullet. We enjoy camping, being active, and anything outdoors really.
Why SJHEM: I chose St. John for the ability to train in Detroit and experience the volume, pathology, diversity, and acuity that comes along with it. Additionally, the tactical EM opportunity was a big pull, and through my interview and talking to current residents the supportive family-like culture of the program really stuck out to me.
Megan Magrane, MD
Hometown: Charleston, SC
Undergrad: Clemson University
Medical School: Medical University of South Carolina
Hobbies: Exploring the neighborhood with my dog, going to the beach and water activities like kayaking/jet skiing/tubing, baking, and playing board games or card games
Why SJHEM: When I interviewed with the program I really liked how friendly and welcoming all the residents and faculty seemed to be and it felt like a very genuinely supportive environment. I also liked the opportunity for procedures and the strong pediatric curriculum. I’m looking forward to exploring all the things Detroit has to offer!
